Station Benches

We have several of these. A couple have ‘always’ been at the station, and we acquired four more from the West Somerset Railway in 2016. The latter had originally been in service on the Barnstaple Junction – Ilfracombe line, then used by the WSR at Dunster and Stogumber before being replaced by more appropriate GWR seats.

We usually call them Southern Railway benches, but others refer to them as London and South Western Railway benches. Does anyone know how far back the design goes?
